  • How often should I have my chimney cleaned?

Wood-burning fireplaces should be cleaned at least once per year, preferably before the first major snowfall. More frequent cleanings may be required depending on how often you use the fireplace, if you use unseasoned wood, or you have a heavy creosote buildup.

  • How much does a chimney cleaning cost?

The price of chimney cleaning varies depending on location, chimney type, and what services are needed. A basic cleaning typically costs $215-$350.

Additional services such as inspections, repairs, or chimney cap installations will cost more.

  • What signs indicate my chimney needs cleaning?

Major warning signs include visible cracks, crumbling mortar, or gaps in the chimney bricks. Other signs can include poor draft, smoke filling back into the room, excessive soot buildup, or animal nests.

  • Do I need my chimney cleaned if I have a gas fireplace?

Yes. Gas chimneys require maintenance, although less frequently than wood-burning fireplaces.

We recommend cleaning every 2-3 years to remove dust and debris and prevent bird nests.

  • What does a typical chimney cleaning involve?

Certified chimney sweeps will inspect the chimney for damage, animal nests, and blockages. Then they will use specialized brushes and tools to remove soot, creosote, and debris. Finally, they will perform another inspection and smoke test to ensure proper airflow.
